    2026 Myntra Seller Guide

Barcode on Myntra Product: Requirements, Labels & Fixes

Every sellable unit you send to Myntra needs a unique item-level barcode — normally a GS1 EAN-13 — that maps one-to-one to the SKU approved in your Myntra catalogue. Cartons carry a separate shipment label for the fulfilment centre dock. Get the mapping, print quality or placement wrong and the inbound gets rejected, which costs days of selling time. This guide covers the codes Myntra accepts, how to map them, print and placement specs, and the rejection reasons we see most often while onboarding fashion brands.

Which barcode types Myntra works with

    EAN-13 / GTIN

The 13-digit global trade item number issued through GS1 India. Brands selling their own labels should own a GS1 prefix so every style-colour-size combination has a unique, globally valid code.

    UPC-A

The 12-digit North American equivalent of EAN. Accepted where a brand already carries UPCs from an international catalogue, but EAN is the norm for India-first fashion brands.

Myntra SKU / vendor article code

Myntra generates its own style and SKU identifiers once your catalogue is approved. The barcode sticker on the product carton has to match this SKU exactly, not just your internal ERP code.

    Carton / shipment barcodes

Inbound cartons carry a separate label with the appointment or shipment reference. This is what the fulfilment centre scans at the dock — it is not a replacement for the item-level barcode.

How to set up barcodes for Myntra, step by step

    1. 1

      Get your GS1 India membership

Register with GS1 India and get your company prefix. This is what makes your EAN codes unique and verifiable. Resellers listing existing branded goods use the manufacturer's existing EAN instead of minting new ones.

    2. 2

Map one barcode per SKU, not per style

A shirt in three colours and five sizes is fifteen SKUs and needs fifteen distinct barcodes. Sharing one code across sizes is the single most common cause of inbound rejection and inventory mismatch.

    3. 3

Load barcodes into the Myntra catalogue sheet

Enter the EAN/UPC in the designated column of the Myntra Partner Portal catalogue template before the style goes live. Codes added after go-live require a catalogue revision and slow down your first inward.

    4. 4

Print labels at the right spec

Use thermal labels, minimum 300 DPI, on a clean white background with adequate quiet zone on both sides. Faded ribbon, blurry inkjet prints and glossy laminate are the usual scan failures.

    5. 5

Place the label where it can actually be scanned

Item-level barcode on the polybag or hangtag, flat and unfolded, not over a seam or crease. Carton label on the outer face near the top-right, one per carton, never wrapped around a corner.

    6. 6

      Verify before dispatch

Scan a sample from every carton with a handheld or phone scanner and confirm it resolves to the correct Myntra SKU. A five-minute check at your warehouse avoids a rejected inbound appointment.

    Label print & placement specification

    Printing

    • Thermal transfer printer, 300 DPI or better
    • Plain white label stock, no gloss lamination over the bars
    • Human-readable digits printed under the barcode
    • Replace ribbon before bars start looking faint or streaked

    Placement

    • Item label flat on the polybag or hangtag, never over a seam
    • Clear quiet zone on both sides of the code
    • One carton label per box, on a single face near the top-right
    • Nothing — price tag, brand sticker, tape — overlapping the code

Common barcode rejections and how to fix them

Barcode does not match the Myntra SKU

Re-download the approved catalogue from the Partner Portal and reconcile your ERP mapping. Reprint the affected labels rather than over-stickering.

Duplicate barcode across sizes or colours

Assign a unique EAN per size-colour combination. Bulk-update the catalogue sheet and request a re-approval before the next inbound.

    Label unscannable at the dock

Usually print quality or placement. Move to a 300 DPI thermal printer, avoid laminating over the code, and keep the quiet zone clear.

    Missing item-level barcode inside carton

Every sellable unit needs its own label even when the carton is labelled. Carton labels are for the dock, item labels are for putaway and picking.

Barcode obscured by price tag or brand sticker

Reposition so nothing overlaps the code. If your hangtag carries the barcode, ensure it is not tucked inside the garment.

    Wrong barcode symbology

Stick to EAN-13 or UPC-A for item-level identification. Code 128 is used for carton and logistics labels, not for the sellable unit.

    Frequently asked questions

What barcode is used on a Myntra product?

Item-level products use a GS1 EAN-13 barcode (or a UPC-A where the brand already carries one), and it must map one-to-one to the SKU approved in your Myntra catalogue. Inbound cartons carry a separate shipment or appointment label, usually Code 128, which is scanned at the fulfilment centre dock.

Do I need a GS1 barcode to sell on Myntra?

Brands selling their own label should hold a GS1 India company prefix so every SKU has a unique, globally valid EAN. Resellers listing an existing branded product use the manufacturer's original EAN rather than generating a new one.

Can one barcode be used for all sizes of the same style?

No. Each size and colour combination is a separate SKU and needs its own unique barcode. Reusing one code across sizes causes inventory mismatch and is a frequent reason for inbound rejection.

Where should the barcode be placed on a Myntra product?

On the polybag or hangtag, flat and fully visible, away from seams and folds, with a clear quiet zone on both sides. On the outer carton, place a single label on one face near the top-right so the dock team can scan without rotating the box.

What printer and label should I use?

A thermal transfer printer at 300 DPI or better on plain white label stock. Avoid inkjet, avoid glossy lamination over the code, and replace ribbon before it starts fading — light or streaked bars are the most common scan failure.

Why was my Myntra inbound rejected for barcode issues?

The usual causes are a barcode that does not match the approved Myntra SKU, duplicate codes across variants, missing item-level labels inside a labelled carton, or a print that is too faint to scan. Fixing the catalogue mapping and reprinting to spec resolves most cases.

Can I fix a wrong barcode after stock reaches the warehouse?

Once stock is at a Myntra fulfilment centre, correcting labels usually means a return-to-origin and a fresh inbound appointment, which costs days of selling time. Verifying a sample from each carton before dispatch is far cheaper.
