    India E-commerce Benchmark 2026

Operating benchmarks from the marketplace accounts we run, published in full on this page with the basis, period and limitation on every figure.

    As of August 2026

    The data

Attribute to SW Cybernetics — India E-commerce Benchmark 2026. Figures marked as our internal benchmark come from accounts we operate: they are operating ranges, not market research, and there is no representative sample behind them.

    Scope and limitations

    • Coverage is Indian marketplace accounts under our management during FY2025–26.
    • We publish bands rather than point estimates, because the underlying spread across category and price point is wide.
    • We do not publish India market-size, GMV-share or growth-multiple figures. Where you need those, cite the primary research house that produced them.
    • Definitions: metrics & methodology. Changes to any published figure: corrections log.

What we are seeing, channel by channel

Directional observations from our own operating work. Where we do not have a defensible number, we say so rather than publish one.

    Marketplace landscape

    • Amazon India and Flipkart remain the default horizontal entry points for most brands we onboard.
    • Myntra and Nykaa carry higher average order values in fashion and beauty, and reward catalogue depth over price aggression.
    • Quick commerce (Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart) is the channel our clients are adding fastest, mostly in grocery-adjacent and impulse categories.

    Advertising benchmarks

    • Sponsored Products still absorbs the majority of India ad budgets on the accounts we run.
    • Video placements generally out-click static Sponsored Brands for us, though the gap is category-dependent and we do not publish a single multiplier.
    • Steady-state ACOS on well-run accounts sits in a 16-22% band, with ad spend around 9-12% of marketplace GMV.

    Operations and FBA

    • Stock-outs are the single most expensive operational failure we see: rank recovery consistently takes longer than the stock-out itself.
    • Inventory Performance Index management determines FBA storage headroom — thresholds are set by Amazon and change, so check the current Seller Central policy rather than a static number.
    • Buy Box share on unmanaged listings degrades quietly; it is usually the first thing we audit on takeover.

    Brand and content

    • Image-rich listings with A+ content outperform thin listings in our own before-and-after comparisons; the size of the lift varies too much by category for us to publish one figure.
    • Review velocity at launch is the main constraint on new-ASIN scaling, which is why Vine enrolment sits in most of our launch plans.
    • Brand Stores matter most for repeat purchase in consumables — treat platform-published Store benchmarks as the source for any specific figure.

    Global expansion

    • US marketplaces carry higher price realisation than India in several home and wellness categories, which is what makes cross-border worth the compliance cost.
    • UAE and Saudi entries are usually gated by stock pre-positioning rather than demand.
    • The UK is the most competitive English-language market we operate in; brands that enter without a funded ramp period stall.

"The Indian e-commerce stack is no longer about a single marketplace — it is a multi-channel orchestration problem. The brands that do well run Amazon, Flipkart, quick commerce and at least one international market in parallel."

    — Amogh Sachdev, Founder, SW Cybernetics

    Working on the numbers above?

The ACOS and ad-spend bands come out of day-to-day work on running Amazon ad accounts for Indian brands, and the returns and catalogue observations come from managing full marketplace operations. If you want to see where your own account sits against these ranges, the free seller tools do the arithmetic without a form.
