    What is GST?

Goods and Services Tax — India's indirect tax on goods and services.

    Detailed Explanation

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's comprehensive indirect tax that replaced multiple state and central taxes in 2017. A GSTIN (GST Identification Number) is required for selling on all Indian marketplaces including Amazon, Flipkart, and Q-commerce platforms. GST rates for e-commerce range from 5-28% depending on the product category. E-commerce operators (marketplaces) deduct 1% TCS (Tax Collected at Source) on net taxable supplies. Sellers must file monthly/quarterly GST returns and can claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) on purchases. Some exemptions exist for sellers with turnover below ₹40 lakhs under the Composition Scheme.
